What is Debt Awareness Week?
Organised by the UK’s leading provider of free debt advice, StepChange Debt Charity, Debt Awareness Week (DAW) aims to increase awareness of problem debt, and the advice and solutions available to help.
As the cost of living crisis continues, we know that many people across the UK will be struggling to make ends meet in 2024.
Our research has shown that many people don’t seek help with debt worries for a variety of reasons, with some of the most common being:
• A mental health condition or other vulnerability
• Feelings of shame and stigma
• A lack of understanding of what debt advice is and what it involves
• Not having the time and head-space
• Worries about how getting help might impact their credit score
Over the course of the week, we’ll be exploring some of these barriers to getting help, and discussing ways of overcoming them, along with plenty of practical help and tips.
When is Debt Awareness Week 2024?
This year, Debt Awareness Week begins on Monday 18th of March and runs until Sunday 24th March.
